Gary Agnew is a Business & Career Enhancement Advisor, aiding entrepreneurs and small businesses who are looking to improve or for a competitive edge. His own professional career is made up of six distinct career changes including flying jet airliners, building businesses from start-up; all underscored by a passion for giving back or paying forward when given an opportunity. He retired in 2015 as a senior human resources practitioner and Partner with Cenera, one of Calgary’s leading human resource advisory firms.
With more than 30 years of practice he has been referred to as a “Career Sherpa” and it has been said that his entrepreneurial and creative thinking has provided the foundation for clients to see possibilities and achieve results.
Gary always believes in giving back and contributing to the community, serving as President of the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCHRA), Human Resources Institute of Alberta (HRIA), and for Canadian Education and Research Institute for Counselling (CERIC). He also served as Vice President of the Human Resources Association of Calgary (HRAC), as well as a member of the Human Resources Advisory Committees for both Mount Royal University and the University of Calgary for over 10 years. In addition, Gary has authored/co-authored six publications on Human Resources and Career Management.
Currently, Gary sits on the global Board of Cornerstone (www.cornerstone-group.com) and assisting its Vancouver office in its expansion of Leadership and Career Coaching services. He also sits on several Boards of small flourishing businesses, serves as the National Director of Communications and Social Media for the Canadian Forces Liaison Council (CFLC), a Director of the Military Family Resource Centre (CMFRC), and a Senator of the Calgary Zoological Society. His personal time, is dedicating time and resources to the recovery and preservation of the Tiger species, as well as, sponsoring the educational development of over 600 underprivileged children in a remote area of Cambodia.
In 2013 Gary was presented with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal by his Excellency the Right Honorable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada; and in 2015 Gary was a recipient of The Fellow Chartered Professionals in Human Resources (FCPHR), a prestigious honorary award that recognizes Certified Human Resources Professionals who have made truly exemplary contributions to the profession.
